AGRO·LAB TONOWASTE, a program for the prevention and reduction of food waste

Agro·Lab TonoWaste is a program created and promoted by Valencia Innovation Capital, aimed at the development of innovative technological solutions that promote the prevention and reduction of food losses and waste, along the agri-food chain. The objective is to use innovation to prevent food from becoming waste, working to build a more sustainable food system, reducing its environmental, social and economic impact.

València Innovation Capital (VIC) is the initiative of the Department of Innovation of the City of Valencia to promote a dynamic, diverse and creative city. VIC is committed to solving the city's real problems with close innovation that is effective and has a direct impact on people's lives. With this program, it broadens the focus and addresses the problem of the long food chain, which transcends the scope of the city because food is a globalized system, with wide-ranging impacts at very different levels. To summarize, The current agri-food model causes the expenditure of significant resources that produce food that ends up not being eaten by anyone, generating waste that needs to be managed, while thousands of people around the world suffer from hunger.

What are you looking for?

Agro·Lab TonoWaste seeks to promote a culture of prevention and reduction of waste, hand in hand with technological innovation. Look for five startups or entrepreneurs who present innovative solutions, ideas and projects that provide value in any of the following challenges:

- Reduction of production losses and waste

- Optimization of logistics and distribution

- Improved inventory and storage management

- Change in consumer habits

- Collaboration and awareness-raising along the food chain

As well as any other service that is related to the prevention and reduction of food losses and waste and that has not been listed above.

What does it offer?

For the five selected initiatives, it offers a complete program of training and mentoring on the prevention and reduction of food waste, as well as a personalized itinerary for the sustainable development of your business model.

The program, in its first edition, will be developed Between the months of February and May 2025, with a first month of training on food waste, and three months of mentoring, with group and individual sessions, to ensure an evolution in the maturity of the proposals. Along these lines, participants are offered to develop a proof of concept throughout the program.

At the end of the acceleration process, each entity's proofs of concept will be submitted, and will be delivered 10,000€ in prizes among the participants, evaluating the contribution of the proposal to the sustainability of the food system, as well as its evolution throughout the program.

In addition, it offers other advantages, such as coworking spaces in La Harinera, the València Innovation Capital building specialized in entrepreneurship, as well as becoming part of the city's innovative ecosystem; visibility for your project, through attendance at important innovation and entrepreneurship events, such as the Valencia Digital Summit, the South Summit or the 4YFN, among others; the presence in specialized media; access to complementary training programs (such as those of EOI), and access to alternative funding sources.
